Theater in a Box

A gallery simulates a backstage world, which Devlin often encounters in her work. Exposed wall cladding and exhibition storage crates fill the space. The largest box contains a model theater in which a film cycles through a selection of performances and installations from 1998 to 2023. Devlin developed many of these works from the models and studies included in the other sections of the exhibition. As a designer of temporary spaces, she views theater as an architecture of the imagination.

A group of people sit on different wooden crates facing a larger crate in which a theater space is recreated with projections of light on the theater screen.
