Portraiture

A body of Devlin’s work could be described as large-scale portraiture. Her wide-ranging subjects include characters in operas, celebrated recording artists, cities, and countries. She often develops a portrait from a single feature: Carmen’s hands, Adele’s eyes, London’s Big Ben. Performers sometimes appear tiny within monumental sculptures, expressing both their power and their vulnerability.
