Established 2019, New York, New York

The visual identity for Making Home reinterprets the Carnegie Mansion’s architectural decoration to bridge public and private, the monumental and the intimate. As they created custom typefaces for the Triennial, graphic designers at Office Ben Ganz were inspired by historic drawings of the building’s ironwork and skylights situated in the former staff quarters. The resulting graphics contrast bold designs with intricate details that reflect the mansion’s 19th-century craftsmanship. Reconnecting the building to its history as a home, exhibition texts and signage are deployed on reimagined home furnishings in the shape of folded screens and playful plinths.

Designed by Ben Ganz, Pablo Genoux, Laura Foxgrover, and Nicholas Phillips. Project management by Kristin Hrycko and Mayatu Peabody.
