The Chronic is a newspaper written by and for Africans. It was born out of an urgent need to write differently about Africa by exploring the complexities, innovations, thinking, and dreams found in its everyday life. Published by Chimurenga, a global platform for writing, art, and politics, The Chronic poses a series of provocations, with each edition based on a distinct theme. Interviews, essays, and exposés are intertwined with critical cartographies, photography, original comics, and illustrated stories, histories, and geographies. The newspaper’s accessible hand-drawn design offers evidence of the people telling and visualizing stories, and honors the reader’s curiosity and imagination.
