Since 1976, Steven Holl (American, b. 1947) has been known for buildings that “satisfy the spirit as well as the eye” (Time magazine, 2001). His firm’s projects include a 220,000-square-meter multi-use complex in Beijing, a new marina in Beirut, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO. Holl’s watercolors of the Nelson-Atkins project and the finished structure itself demonstrate the architect’s devotion to the sensitive crafting of space, materials, and light.
